Be sure to at least calibrate your monitor's brightness and contrast by using the scale near the bottom of this page. Otherwise images may appear too dark or too light.
You should also consider calibrating your monitor for colors. This can be done with a color calibration tool, such as the Spyder2Express from ColorVision.
